Solo Exhibition
Where the Sand Meets the Sea and the Sun
BMG Art Gallery (Adelaide, Australia)
Friday 24 September - Saturday 16 October 2021
Opening: Friday 24 September 2021 , 6.30pm - 8.30pm (

‘Where the Sand meets the Sea and the Sun’ represents infinity and resurrection. These three landscape horizontal markers ( sand, sea ,sun) merge and connect to the earth. There is an expansive sensation when facing these elements, but also a sense of insignificance and vulnerability. To me, this force of nature merges with my own presence and there is a sense of being reshaped as a ‘man of clay’.
This exhibition traces memories associated with my late
father Huw Halse and explores his love of the ocean. The work has open
and vulnerable passages but there is also a need to structure light and
stabilise the movement of water, shifting sands, and fluid painterly
passages. There are some traces of my father’s architectural plans that
are embedded into the collages and the forms trigger memories and provide ideas
for structural frameworks. Form in the work is generated through haptic
processes and as a gestural painter, this expressive offering that is embedded
in the material embodies a personal truth.
